Tito Sotto, Vic Sotto, and Joey de Leon announced on Wednesday that they have resigned from being hosts of the longest-running variety show in the Philippines, “Eat Bulaga!”
The three former hosts, a trio often called TVJ, have played important roles in “Eat Bulaga!” since the show started in 1979. TVJ announced that they wanted to part ways with the production company of the show, TAPE Inc.
“We will no longer talk at length about what’s in our hearts. All we want is to be able to work in peace, without taking advantage of anyone, treating one another with respect,” Vic explained.
Some show biz insiders claimed to have anticipated TVJ’s resignation following the rumors of a power struggle within TAPE, which is now mostly owned and controlled by Romeo Jalosjos Sr. and his family.
Last April, in an interview in “Fast Talk with Boy Abunda,” Bullet Jalosjos remarked that TVJ “can’t live without ‘Eat Bulaga!’”.
A copy of the resignation letter was posted on an Instagram story by Vic’s wife, Pauleen Luna, showing the signatures of co-hosts Maine Mendoza, Paolo Ballesteros, Jose Manalo, Ryzza Mae Dizon, Wally Bayola, Ryan Agoncillo, and Allan K. Pauleen noted in her story post that “all the hosts, writers, sales, production, and cameramen followed suit immediately after TVJ’s resignation.”
TAPE Inc. announced that “Eat Bulaga!” will continue with a new set of hosts on Thursday. The statement notes that TAPE Inc. is “saddened by the turn of events yesterday, May 31, but we respect the decision of the hosts to leave Eat Bulaga and GMA 7 Network, which has been their home for 28 years.”
"Ang pag-alis ng mga hosts ay hindi dahilan para tumigil ang pag-ikot ng mundo. Maraming Salamat!"
