PAGASA said in its 5 a.m. forecast that Mawar, locally called Betty —entered PAR at 2 a.m. slightly weaker but speeding up northwestward toward Northern Luzon in the areas of Batanes and Babuyan Islands.
Although it was seen far from the land as of 3 in the morning, most parts of Northern Luzon are already experiencing heavy rainfall.
“On Monday, the tropical cyclone will turn northwestward and decelerate as it moves over the waters east of Extreme Northern Luzon.”
“Betty may eventually become almost stationary between late Tuesday and early Wednesday when it will be closest to Batanes—”
Weather specialist Benison Estareja observed that Betty is expected to slightly slow down yet will trigger the monsoon rains that will mostly be in the western part of the country and is expected to last until Wednesday.
