A very hot topic today has been the integration of AI in various fields of art - how it’s creating job insecurities and potentially job loss among not just artists. AI has been with us for years now, but it did the once-unthinkable.
Artificial Intelligence or AI is a simulation of human intelligence, usually by computers. AI is used on small things such as being an opponent in chess, or on bigger things like self-driving cars. Sure, it is useful and convenient and maybe even cost-effective in other areas. But it’s a different conversation altogether when talking about art. A lot of us didn’t even think AI could make art because it requires such a complex understanding of life. It is terrifying to think maybeAIs can do the same. I mean sure, AI as of now can not probably make something completely original, as it requires various prompts and art made by real artists. But who knows what could happen in the future? We didn’t even think this was possible, and yet here it is.
Another terrifying thing is AI is being used for music, too. Some of you have probably seen several videos on YouTube about AI music covers. It is when AI replaces the voice of the singer in a song, with another singer. And the results are terrifyingly accurate. This means that if you’re curious to listen to your favorite song sung by another artist, that’s now possible with just a few clicks away. This poses a threat not just for the music industry, but also general safety on the internet. Voice changers have always been there, and it’s fun to use and play with it from time to time. But people are bound to use this in scamming, catfishing, and many more. You can create completely fake identities and it adds another layer of believability when you can alter your voice to sound like a public figure. Or who knows? One day, you can probably steal another person’s voice. You can already steal somebody’s face using AI, so how possible is it to steal their voice, too?
It has also amplified job insecurity among humans; in time, maybe Artificial Intelligence WILL take over and steal our jobs. If ChatGPT and other programs can create stories and literature, and AIs that can write code and ]steal your identity and voice, what is left for humanity? Art and literature have always been a very human thing, and it’s hard to be technical when creating them. Art is subjective, rather than objective;it is raw and not machinery. If AIs can take over something that is exclusively a human-like trait, then it is very much understandable that people are upset about this phenomenon. Maybe we are screwed, but I hope not.
