Chuu can do it (again): How LOONA is Rising from Agency Management

Graphics by Danielle Budiao

Like any other person, idols go through hardships that may even compromise their careers. However, with enough love and support from those around them, it will be easier for them to move forward. The story of how LOONA fought against their former agency, Blockberry Creative, with the help of those who worked around them is a definitive example of this.

Orbits (fans of Loona) are determined to help the girls in their fight by boycotting anything from the BBC. They would be willing to sacrifice their memories of their music for the girls, as they would go so far as to boycott their company by not buying any LOONA merchandise and even not listening to their songs on legal streaming platforms. Last January 3, the BBC announced that LOONA would make their comeback as an eleven-member group called The Origin Album: 0. However, because of the uproar and disagreement from Orbits, the BBC decided to postpone it indefinitely.

Now, what lies ahead for these twelve beloved girls? As mentioned, nine of the remaining eleven had filed lawsuits against the BBC. On January 13, 2023, four members (Heejin, Kim Lip, Jinsoul, and Choerry) won their cases. However, the remaining five (Haseul, Gowon, Yeojin, Olivia Hye, and Yves) lost theirs because of the recent changes in their contracts a year ago. During this time, members Vivi and Hyunjin cannot file a lawsuit due to the former’s problems with her visa.

While there are no current updates about the ones that remain under the BBC, the girls who won signed a contract under Modhaus (home to K-Pop girl group tripleS). Jaden Jeong, founder, and CEO of Modhaus, also happened to work with LOONA as their creative director. Together, they formed a project called ARTMS. While that is currently what the project is about, they mentioned that it is not a new group. In addition, they also plan to copyright this name along with ODD EYE CIRCLE (previously a subunit under LOONA).

But what about Chuu? Despite the BBC’s repeated efforts to drag her career into the mud, she signed a contract as a soloist under ARTP last April 7, 2023. So far, they introduced a welcome kit and photos with the motto "I'm Chuu. I'm a Dreamer."

Even as the twelve moon girls face hardships against their agency, they manage to conquer them with the help of those around them. Watching everything unfold on social media has been a rollercoaster, especially for their dedicated Orbits. Their music as LOONA has always brought us into a new world, and we are excited to hear their music in the future. We anticipate what is in store for them, free from mistreatment by an agency.
