There’s more to the glitters than what meets the eye. The awaited season 2 of Euphoria aired its first episode on January 9, 2022, and fans were so excited for what’s in store for our fave characters. However – as the second season’s finale aired on February 27, everything turned into a roller coaster of emotions.
Are you missing the series already? Let’s go back to these euphoric moments.

It was a shock to the fans that Lexi was going to push through with making this play that is purely inspired by what’s happening to her friends and family - and that means telling the life of her sister, Cassie, her best friend, Rue, and her whole life. The once quiet and innocent character in Season 1 proved to us that there’s more to unpack here - and she’s going to show everyone through a play called “Our Life”. She may have thought about how this could make her friends and family hate her for telling all their life struggles, but she wants to get this out because this is her only outlet for everything that’s been happening. She told it so beautifully that it’s going to make you smile, cry, and laugh.

Sometimes, it may be tiring to see people go through hard things especially when they know that they should stop. This season showed us how drug addiction can’t just go away in a snap –It’s an ongoing process. Sometimes, when you try to be clean, you suddenly thirst for more. Rue went through all this and craved for more to the point that she even went to Laurie, a drug lord, and “promised” her to sell $10,000 worth of drugs when she just wanted it for her own. People who are close to her tried to help her in any way they can, but she’s having a hard time accepting that help because she doesn't feel like she’s worth saving. This led to her lashing out at everyone and shutting them down from her world, wanting to just disappear– but that didn’t mean she wasn’t trying to stay sober.

It’s clear to everyone that Cassie is officially the main antagonist this season. A lot of this went downhill from the moment she got involved with Maddy’s boyfriend, Nate. The quick taste of feeling wanted and appreciated by a guy was something she longed for and now that she got it, there are consequences. She couldn’t make up her mind if she had to stop seeing him for the sake of her friendship with Maddy or continue to sneak out with him and live this fantasy. As this series goes on, you’ll see her fighting for the love that she won’t get back. At first glance, it’s annoying and you’ll feel like hating on her constantly, but, the thing with Cassie is that you’ll have this deep understanding of why she’s so smitten about the thought of being with Nate - validation, and appreciation.

Another shock of this season was when we saw an unlikely relationship between Fez and Lexi. Being total opposites, they found a common ground when they talked to each other during the New Year’s Eve party. No matter how different their lifestyles were, you’ll see that they needed one another. They need a safe place where they can truly be themselves and they found that in each other. There’s character development for both of them - Fez suddenly turned soft for Lexi, and Lexi got a little more confident in showing her feminine side because of how Fez treated her like she was the most beautiful girl.

Being the main antagonist for Season 1, this season turned out to be for Nate. He started by manipulating Cassie, releasing his anger out on his dad, to even threatening Maddy with a gun to her head. It’s still unclear to anyone what his motive was when he went to Jules and gave her the sex tape back. Was he caring for Jules? Was he just trying to be nice? For all we know, there may be some things that we need to unwrap for us to understand why he did all these things.
𝐅𝐥𝐨𝐩 𝐬𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐨𝐧: 𝙈𝙖𝙙𝙙𝙮 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙆𝙖𝙩’𝙨 𝙘𝙝𝙖𝙧𝙖𝙘𝙩𝙚𝙧 𝙖𝙧𝙘
This season wasn’t so nice to our fave girls, Maddy and Kat. Their stories in Season 1 didn’t continue that much. They kind of turned into supporting characters, and even if they did, we didn’t get any character development from them. Most times, they were fading into the background except for the times when we get to see the famous high school play brawl between Maddy and Cassie. The fact that Kat just dumped her sweet boyfriend and made up an awful excuse makes it more disappointing. It may just be depicting that not every story should be over-the-top or glamorous like the other characters, but we could've seen more of these characters.
Euphoria has always been a series with different storylines, all stitched together to form a story that each of us can resonate with. It’s not just a story about high school kids exploring the world of drugs, sex, and love. It’s a story about finding themselves from their experiences. It’s meant to be too glamorous for real life because the creators want to show how bewitching it could be to be in their position - how we will get blinded by the thought of feeling this amount of euphoria.
As the last episode left fans hanging from that last scene, there’s still a lot to unpack. Just like Maddy said, “Don’t worry. This is just the beginning.” We still have a lot of questions that need answers. The third installment of Euphoria is set to air by 2024, so with all the time we have before the next season, there’s still a lot of time to rewatch every episode and find some clues on what is in store for us in the next season.
