Bow before your Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton story premise

Dearest gentle readers,

A blessing has been bestowed upon Bridgerton fans from Shonda Rhimes, the creator of the popular Netflix series “Bridgerton”. As we await and celebrate the upcoming third season of the show, especially with the highly anticipated Colin Bridgerton and Penelope Featherington love story, Netflix dropped a six-part prequel to the main story that’ll keep fans on their toes.

It came as no surprise that the show ranked first among the top 10 Netflix shows given that it launched on May 4, 2023. The spin-off centered on Queen Charlotte, one of Bridgerton's well-liked characters, portrayed by Golda Rosheuvel and her younger self by India Amarteifio. In the show, we see a version of this opinionated yet strong-willed character in her younger years during the 18th century. Along with her rise in power amongst the royal governance in London, we’re also brought along her own love story with King George III (played by James Fleet and his younger self by Corey Mylchreest), which all began from the Princess Dowager’s (played by Michelle Fairley) “Great Experiment.” A way to bring forth wealthy citizens of color to the status of nobility. Queen Charlotte not only focuses on the story of the king and queen, and love in general, but we find struggles with mental health issues, discrimination, politics, same-sex relations, and so much more.

It’s also worth noting that the show brings a sense of connection with its predecessor by providing scenes of the current time in Bridgerton, connecting the past to the present. Fans will be satisfied to watch both the young and older versions of the characters, and there are even mentions of fan-favorite characters like the Bridgerton siblings from their mother. Speaking of the supporting characters that we’ve grown to love in the original Brigerton series, let’s not forget the sophisticated Lady Danbury (played by Adjoa Andoh and her younger self by Arsema Thomas) as we watch her struggle to find her role in the royal government as a woman and especially of color.

In addition, we find love in all sorts of partners, especially between Queen Charlotte’s royal attendant, Brimsley (played by Hugh Sachs and his younger self by Sam Clemmett), and his homosexual relationship with King George III’s royal attendant, Reynolds. Their love story captured the fans' hearts and are awaiting for their story to continue in the main series.

Although there is a lack of news regarding Queen Charlotte's possible second season, with the story’s beautiful ending, we could still watch our beloved characters in the upcoming third season of Bridgerton.
