The sun is setting and the music is blasting.
The annual music festival anticipated by celebrities, artists, influencers, and music junkies gathered for the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival 2023.
You must’ve been living under a rock if you’ve never heard of Coachella or seen pictures of celebrities like the Jenners, Kardashians, Hadids, Vanessa Hudgens, and many more attending the festival. They are so hard to miss with their boho and chic outfits circulating all over the internet!
It is held every year at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California, in the Coachella Valley–hence the name. Co-founded by Paul Tollett and Rick Santen in 1999, Coachella was created to attract people to see underrated artists’ art installations and listen to musicians with great talent. They never wanted fame; they just wanted to promote and showcase fresh talent.
Over the years, their guest musicians have evolved and started to feature pop and hip-hop. Not only that, their main events are swarmed by celebrities. Fashionistas and influencers are also seen left and right!
This year’s Coachella was set on two weekends; April 14-16 and 21-23.
The headliners for this year were BLACKPINK, Bad Bunny, and Frank Ocean, together with other performers such as Becky G, Calvin Harris, Kid LAROI, Rosalia, Willow, Jackson Wang, and many more. The main stages, especially Frank Ocean, made quite some noise online because it was his first live show in six years. But fans were left disappointed when his performance started late and he only got to sing a few songs. Instead of performing for two weekends, he could only perform in the first after suffering a leg injury from that first week. His supposedly second-week performance was replaced by Blink 182 instead.
Nevertheless, this year’s Coachella is considered one of the best because of its diverse and inclusive set of performing artists. It’s good to see that the then indie and pop-rock-based festival featuring only Americans is starting to branch out to many international talents. The event had an attendance of 250,000. Despite that large number, there were still fans who weren’t able to attend. Luckily, they were given a chance to watch online via YouTube as its main events were streamed.
Coachella 2023 makes future Coachellas much more exciting as it will leave the fans guessing who will be performing next on the main stage. It certainly has become more of an event that’s worth keeping on the radar.
